Problem
Museums have always asked visitors to keep their distance, look, but don't touch. This purely visual approach leaves the body passive and the emotional potential of art largely untapped. The encounter with a painting remains beautiful, but rarely visceral.
Solution
Feelink is a wearable haptic device that gives the body an active role in the artistic experience. Through a lightweight glove and conductive contact points placed near the artworks, visitors receive vibrations and physical feedback synchronized with each painting's emotional intensity, transforming observation into sensation.
Feelink is a project that explores the dialogue between technology, the body, and art. It is a wearable device designed to create a tactile connection between people and paintings, transforming a museum visit into a more intimate and sensory experience. Born from the desire to move beyond the purely visual, Feelink gives the body a voice, an invitation to feel art, not just look at it.
The project began with a simple question: what if a painting could touch you back? Starting from that premise, the development process moved across hardware, software, and interaction design simultaneously, prototyping the glove's circuitry with Arduino, mapping haptic responses in TouchDesigner, and testing the experience directly in a simulated museum environment.
Each artwork in the Feelink system is assigned an emotional profile, intensity, rhythm, texture, translated into a unique pattern of vibrations. A stormy seascape might deliver a deep, rolling pulse; a delicate still life, a barely perceptible tremor. The body becomes a receiver, tuned to frequencies the eye alone cannot detect.
The result is a device that is both technically grounded and conceptually poetic, a working prototype that bridges interaction design, physical computing, and the philosophy of sensory experience.
